Newton-Conover City Schools congratulates the Newton-Conover High School Battle of the Books Team for their First Place win today in the Catawba County Battle of the Books Competition.


Newton-Conover City Schools would like to thank the NC State Employees Credit Union for their help with this year's "Reality of Money" financial simulation conducted with our middle schoolers. This activity exposed students to important financial learning points. It aligns extremenly well with the NC Financial Literacy Law that states that students should receive personal financial literacy instruction. Thank you SECU!

Congratulations to the North Newton Elementary Battle of the Books Team for winning our district competition 2025. Shuford Elementary was second place. Great Job to all our Teams.



On 3-17-25 North Newton Elementary custodian Wendy Swayngim was recognized by the N-CCS Board of Education for her continued hard work and dedication to the North Newton Elementary School Community.

Also recognized at the Board Meeting was North Newton Elementary Teacher Chriss Martinez for his dedication to excellence and service to the North Newton community. He was also recognized for his recent award as Newton-Conover City Schools' Beginning Teacher of the Year 25-26.

At its 3-17-25 Board Meeting, North Newton Elementary School's "Girls on the Go" group was recognized for their continued participation at the school.

Today, the NC State Employees Credit Union partnered with Newton-Conover Middle School in an event entitled "Reality of Money." Using a fictional income amount students had to navigate the financial scenario of budgeting and paying for real life expenses like childcare, health care, transportation, etc. in order to learn about life's finances.

Newton-Conover City Schools hosted the Catawba County Middle School Book Bash Competition. Congratulations Newton-Conover Middle for placing First in this competition.

An additional recognition at the N-CCS Board of Education Meeting on 3-17-25 was Cline Custom Builders for their partnership with North Newton Elementary School.

The N-CCS Board of Education and Principal Leah Hayes recognized North Newton Elementary staff members: Morgan Kitts, Steven Dowd, and Sharon Freitag for their continued work and dedication for students and parents. Congrats!

On 3-17-25 the N-CCS Board of Education recognized NCHS Individual State Champion Wrestler Bodie Kirkland; Conference Champion Wrestling Coach Justin Shuffler; and Nola Walker, the first female wrestler in NCHS history to qualify for State Individual Tournament. Congratulations!

Congratulations to the Newton-Conover Middle School Band! Today they participated in the NC Music Performance Assessment ran by the NC District Bandmaster's Association. Sixth grade earned an excellent rating (2nd highest possible) and the 7th/8th Grade received the highest rating of Superior.



Newton-Conover High School alum Cassidy Geddes and her William and Mary Basketball Team made history by winning the Coastal Athletic Association Conference Basketball Tournament and won a berth in the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament. Cassidy was awarded a spot on the All-Tournament Team. William and Mary takes on High Point University March 20th 9 PM on ESPN.


North Carolina Department of Public Instruction's Literacy Expert Catie Cohen provided professional development to Discovery High School and Newton-Conover Middle School teacyers this morning on providing Robust, Literacy Rich Instruction.



Congrats to Chriss Martinez, 3rd-grade teacher at North Newton Elementary, for being named Newton-Conover's Beginning Teacher of the Year! His dedication & innovative teaching make a huge impact. Principal Leah Hayes praises his student-centered approach & creativity. Well-deserved!


Discovery celebrates "March Madness" each year with each class battling it out on the court. Today, the Seniors took on the Sophomores and won 36-22.

Newton-Conover City Schools is proud of Newton-Conover Middle School 7th grader Larry Velasco Mendoza, who represented Newton-Conover in the Carolina Panthers Regional Spelling Bee, sponsored by Bank of America on March 9. Larry finished tied for 10th place out of 60 participants. Congratulations!


Newton-Conover City Schools celebrated "Read Across America" this week March 3-7. This unique event is designed to encourage reading among school-aged children. Take some time to read to a child today. March is also National Reading Month.
