Downtown Newton Development Association hosted a PEP Rally in recognition of 100 years of N-CHS football on Friday night. The JV and Varsity cheer squads, and the JV and Varsity football teams were introduced. It was a fun evening of community and school spirit. #groundedandgrowing
Today during community, Discovery High School celebrated being an A school per the North Carolina school performance grades. There are 2,523 public schools and 204 public charter schools in the state, and only 5.6% received an A letter grade rating. Congratulations Discovery High School! The safety and welfare of our students and staff are our highest priority. We are proud to be able to serve you and your children, and we will continually strive to provide a safe learning environment for them. In order to maintain a safe environment for our students, it is necessary that we practice our emergency and crisis response plans by having drills designed to exercise our procedures. Drills allow us to evaluate our emergency operations plan and improve our response skills. This week our students practiced and discussed multiple drills. Today, Discovery High School celebrated Cupcake Day to honor former guidance counselor Maggie Daniels and celebrate the first Friday of the school year. This is the 8th year celebrating Cupcake Day. DHS received 1,300 cupcakes donated by students. #groundedandgrowing

This week in N-CHS football history, we recognize the success of our football program. The Red Devils have won 25 total conference championships, 5 of which they were co-conference champions. Come out tonight to Hickory High School to cheer on your Red Devils. Remember, Hickory High School has a new clear bag policy.

Friday night was special at Gurley Stadium as we hosted several of our Red Blazer recipients under the Red Blazer tent and recognized them at halftime. We recognized Pat Gibson, Don Greenlee, Mary Greenlee, Kim Lutz, Melanie Elrod, Tim Elrod, and Stine Isenhour. These individuals have given of their time, talents, effort, finances, and other resources for the betterment of the staff and students of Newton-Conover City Schools. The success of the district over the years is due in part to these dedicated individuals.
